Beginner Drift Course in Buenos Aires: What Is Included and Pricing

The beginner drift course you need if you have never drifted before
If you are searching for a beginner drift course in Buenos Aires, you probably have a thousand questions: how much does it cost, what is included, do I need experience, can I wreck the car, will I be left alone on track? This article answers absolutely everything — no fluff, with real prices and the information you need to decide whether it is for you.
Our course is not a "ride-along experience" where you sit in a car while a professional driver does the slides. Here, you drive. You control the throttle, the steering wheel and the handbrake. The instructor sits beside you and guides you, but the hands on the wheel are yours.
What you learn in each hour
First half hour: the fundamentals
The first ten minutes are an off-car briefing. The instructor explains what oversteer is, how to provoke it with the throttle and how to control it with counter-steer. He shows you hand position, explains the pedals and tells you what will happen when the car starts to slide. It is not a long theory class — just the minimum concepts you need to get in the car with confidence.
The next twenty minutes are on track with the instructor sitting beside you. You start with simple exercises: accelerate on the straight, brake before the corner and get on the gas to provoke oversteer. The first slide usually appears between five and ten minutes in. It is not long or spectacular, but it is yours — and the feeling is incredible.
By the end of the first half hour, most beginners can hold a two-to-three-second slide through a corner. It might not sound like much, but for someone who has never drifted, it is a huge achievement.
Second half hour: angle and control
With the basics of oversteer covered, we raise the difficulty. Now we work on sustaining the slide for longer, increasing the car's angle (making it go more sideways) and starting to control speed mid-drift. The instructor stays beside you giving real-time calls: "more throttle", "look at the exit", "release the brake".
This is where most students feel the click. They go from reacting to what the car does to anticipating and controlling it. It is a subtle difference but it feels enormous. By the end of the first hour, slides are longer, more angled and more controlled.
Third and fourth half hour (if you booked the one-hour or longer package)
If you reserved the one-hour Drift Experience, the second half of the session is where things get really interesting. You start linking corners — entering a turn while drifting, maintaining the slide and transitioning to the next corner without losing angle. We also begin working with different initiation techniques: in addition to throttle, you try the handbrake as a supplement.
By the end of a full hour, you will be linking two corners in drift with a level of control you would not have believed possible sixty minutes earlier.
The car: BMW E36 328i prepared for drift
The course car is a BMW E36 328i with a 2.8-litre inline six engine, 200 HP, rear-wheel drive. It has a welded limited-slip differential, adjustable coilover suspension, Sparco racing seats with four-point harnesses and a certified roll cage. It is a real competition car, not a road car with stickers.
The BMW E36 is the most widely used platform in the world for learning to drift. Its weight balance, progressive engine and predictable chassis make it ideal for beginners. When you add throttle, oversteer builds gradually, giving you time to react. In more powerful or lighter cars the reaction is instant and much harder to control.
Safety gear included
All safety equipment is included in the course price. You do not need to bring anything.
- Certified helmet: Full-face competition helmet with good ventilation and clear visor. We have several sizes available.
- Four-point harnesses: Keep you fixed in the seat during slides. Much more effective than a standard seatbelt.
- Roll cage: Steel structure welded to the chassis that protects the cabin in case of impact or rollover.
- Racing seats: Sparco seats with lateral support that hold you in the correct position regardless of lateral forces during drift.
The only clothing requirement is closed-toed shoes with a flat sole — regular trainers work perfectly. No sandals, platforms or heels.

Drift vs other driving experiences in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires offers several driving experiences, but they are very different things. If you want to understand the differences, we recommend our article on drifting vs performance driving.
Drifting is the only experience where you control the car in sustained oversteer. In karting you drive within the grip limit. In performance driving courses you learn to go fast in a straight line, not sideways. Drift is a completely different discipline and the adrenaline is on another level.
Frequently asked questions about the beginner course
What happens if I crash or break something?
The car is built to absorb the punishment of learning. If you hit a cone or run wide on a corner, nothing happens — that is what run-off zones are for. If there is mechanical wear from normal drift use (a tyre, a clutch), that is covered in the price. Only extraordinary damage caused by obvious negligence would be charged, and in practice this virtually never happens with beginners because the instructor is right beside you controlling the situation.
Do I need a driving licence?
No. Since it is a private closed circuit, no driving licence is required. However, it is important that you have a basic understanding of how to drive a manual car — the BMW E36 is manual and you need to know how to use the clutch and shift gears.
What is the minimum age?
There is no strict minimum age. Under-18s need to come accompanied by a responsible adult who signs an authorisation form. We have had students aged 15 and 16 who performed perfectly well.
Can I bring people to watch?
Yes, spectators are welcome and can watch from the pit area. In fact, it helps to have someone film you from outside — the external footage complements the onboard video included in the package.
